In the vast field of board games which I've played, none is more nostalgic and consistently enjoyable to me as Scrabble. It's no Spiel des Jahres winner, but it has a place close to my nerdy dictionary-loving heart. And I am not alone. It's one of those games that's won the hearts of people everywhere, and there are versions for many languages with appropriate tilesets and everything. Any game invented by someone with the last name Butts has to be good. It's iconic. So much so that it appears in many different places. So much so that there is a National Scrabble Association in the USA. So much so that people have been memorialized with the game. Paul G. Lind has this creatively mosaicked headstone: And Heather Cornelius Bowden has this one:
For one of the less morbid family ceremonies in a person's life, there is the option for a Scrabble Wedding Cake: Then, once you settle down, begin to furnish your probably book-filled new house, you might want to pick up a Scrabble rug:
Or perhaps a Scrabble couch set like the one designed by Alistair Willmott and Stephen Reed. For those warm summer evenings, you might want to follow in the footsteps of these two engineering minds and consider setting up a Backyard Scrabble set: Complete with wooden tiles and painted scoring squares.
Then of course, no home office would be complete without a Scrabble keyboard: If you work at it hard enough, you might just be able to furnish your entire life with scrabble paraphernalia.
