Frequently Asked Questions

It's the SubjectiveGamer.com : Your source for reviews on games, books, movies and more!

Firstly: this website is entirely run for fun. We all love our respective fields, and we love writing reviews, so why not publish them? Secondly: in the videogame-review community, many websites seem to have completely lost their origins and have filled up their pages with all sorts of stuff that simply creates an incredibly unenjoyable browsing experience.Part of the problem here is advertisements.

I will stay very, very far from making any accusations, but we have to address the elephant in the room: bias. People in psychology are well-aware of something that is called the "Norm of Reciprocity" which, in short, is the basic instinct to return favors. Many reviewers get their games for free and go to meetings with the developers where they occasionally spend extensive amounts of time with the team behind a game.

As I said: there will be no accusations made, but I've always learned that it is best to even avoid the slightest hint of bias.

The explanation is two-fold:
1) Not-for-profit simply means that we do not make money off the website, so every penny made in revenue is reinvested into the website - for instance by upgrading the hosting plan to allow for faster connections, hiring a good programmer to create new elements for the site etc.

2) Some of the ads are for idealistic organizations, such as anything under a Creative Commons license. They're unpaid ads that the staff of SubjectiveGamer supports, and quite often they lead to free products! So everybody wins!

Excellent! Head on over to the Job Postings section of the website!
Suggestions are -always- welcome! Simply register for the website and drop a line to the appropriate head editor for the medium (books, games, etc).

The nature of reviews is, unfortunately, subjective, and therefore it makes alot of sense that you will occasionally disagree with a reviewer's opinion. Not to worry, we love reading your input! Head over to the forums and post your opinion!

That said, please try to phrase your opinion clearly, lucidly and politely. Our reviewers don't insult you, so please try not to insult them.

You get the option to talk back to the reviewers through comments, respond to news articles on the main page and post in the forums!
Yes, and yes. As a not-for-profit organization, we will never charge our members a dime for our services.

Many reasons:
1) We do have advertisements on the website.
2) We want the freedom to do exactly what we want on this website.
3) It would feel morally strange to have a videogame reviewing website that is put in the realm of organizations that fight global warming or battle cancer.
